Occasional in nutrient-rich lochs and pools Leaves normally to 40 cm long and 6 mm wide. Fruiting heads c 7-10 mm wide. Skye ID: Normally has 2-3 female heads below 1-2 male heads; if 2, the male heads are close together and appear as one. Bract of lowest female head is about equal to length of inflorescence; not twice as long, as in Floating Bur-reed. (examine several) Other features: Floating part of leaves not forming metre-long ribbons as in Floating Bur-reed, but quite limited in length as in picture on right below. Flowerhead-sheaths loose but not notably inflated. Stem leaves not expanded at base, and nowhere more than very shallowly triangular if at all. |
