Quite frequent in woods, beside streams, and among exposed heather and rocks. Flower diameter c 2-4 cm. Hips 1-1.5 cm Skye ID: Spines straight, very numerous and close together, consisting of many short ones and some longer ones. Also identifiable by purplish-black hips, though semi-decayed hips of other roses can turn darkish late in year. Other features: Leaves have much smaller leaflets compared to total leaf length than other roses, so that overall leaf is parallel-sided in outline. Usually 9-11 leaflets per leaf. |
