Taxonomic note: This page needs dividing into Rosa canina and Rosa caesia. The commonest kinds on Skye seem to be R canina group Dumales and R caesia ssp glauca, and the hybrid between them.

Quite frequent in woods and scrub Flower diameter c 3-5 cm Skye ID: Prickles strongly hooked with stout bases, underside of leaves not scented. Hips without hairs or glands. Other features: Up to 3 m tall with long arching stems. Very variable. Leaves usually hairless, often with glands on the teeth. |
