Common on bare ground.

Flowerheads c 1 cm across

Skye ID: Dark blotch in leaf centre (see pic) usually present.  Leaves tapering to both ends.  Stems reddish.  Upper leaves unstalked.  Note that Pale Persicaria (P lapathifolium) could well appear on Skye at some point.  It also has the dark blotch on the leaves, but has green stems and usually greenish flowers.  The fruit is has convex sides in Persicaria but concave sides in Pale P.

Other features: Stems swollen above nodes.  Sheathing stipules at base of leaf are fringed.
