Infrequent beside burns and lochs or on cliff ledges.  Picture on left shows typical habitat, but sometimes found out in the open.

Pinnules 2-6.5 cm, leaves 30-300 cm

ID: Fronds bi-pinnate but with the pinnules only very shallowly toothed or lobed.  Can sometimes look like a rowan seedling at first glance.

Other features: Mature plant has tall brown spikes of thin pinnules covered with spores, at the top of the central fronds, and all-green sterile fronds around the outside of the tuft.  No pics of spore-bearing spikes yet.
