Frequent among sphagnum, often under heather. Plant normally 4-12 cm tall, leaves c 1-2.5 cm long Skye ID: Flowers reddish-green, with red lower petal divided into two narrow tapering tails which are much more (relatively) long and narrow than those of Common Twayblade, but soon fall off. Other features: Always has just one pair of leaves, almost opposite on the stem, often found without stems as in picture below right. Flowers late May - early June, later on higher ground. |
