Common in Argyll and the Uists but very rare further north. In lowland pools and ditches Leaf c 2-5 mm diameter ID: Not differentiated into stem and leaf, the rounded leaf or thallus floating on the water surface with a white root hanging down from the underside. Other features: Often completely covers an area of water. Flowers minute, greenish, rare, probably never occurring in our area. Mostly reproduces vegetatively, each leaf producing new ones which eventually separate from it. Leaves usually about 3-6 together. |
