Common on field edges, roadside banks, etc.

Bushes c 1-3 m high.  Flowers c 13-20 mm long.

Skye ID: Very spiny bush without leaves.  Bracts at base of each flower 2-4 mm long, as against less than 1 mm in Western Gorse (U gallii), which has been reported from Skye.

Other features: Remains green all year.  Flowers from October through till June - pic on left shows snow lying on it.  Flowers have almond-like scent.  Spines grooved.
