Occasional in localities where both parents occur, though they need not be immediately adjacent. Flowers c 12-18 mm long ID: A usually sterile hybrid between Hedge Woundwort and Marsh Woundwort. Intermediate between the two. Leaves from the upper middle of the stem have stalks between 1/10 and 1/5 of total leaf length, in Marsh W they are unstalked and in Hedge W they are over 1/4 of the total. All leaves have blades much more than twice as long as wide. Other features: Specimens that I have seen have flower colour and leaf toothing like Marsh W, leaf colour and feel like Hedge W (leaf colour palish green, Marsh is dark with a hint of reddish on the upper leaves and bracts; feel of leaf between fingers is soft and obviously hairy, on Marsh feels soft but no sense of brushing past actual hairs). |
