Scarce on rock ledges or stony ground in mountains Tepals c 2.5-3 mm long. Bracts at base of inflorescence c 2-8 cm long. Skye ID: Easy - a single flower or tight cluster of flowers in the angle of 2-3 very long leaf-like bracts. Whole plant has a Y shape. (young stems of other rushes, eg Toad Rush or Slender Rush, can have this shape, but their inflorescence expands before the flowers open) Other features: Tufted and with creeping rhizomes. Stems rigid, base covered with leaf-sheaths, some prolonged into short leaves. Otherwise no leaves up the stem until the bracts. Fruit has a long pointed tip. |
