Rapidly increasing and now common on bare ground, particularly on paths and tracks. Tepals c 3-4 mm long. Plant somewhat shorter than the common conspicuous rushes, typically 30 cm tall. Skye ID: Leaves and leaf-like bracts grooved. Lowest bract much longer than infloresence. Other features: Tepals narrow and acutely pointed. Fruit egg-shaped, much shorter than tepals. Leaf-sheaths end in a pair of pale flimsy, papery auricles which are longer than broad. Leaves all, or nearly all, from base (not counting leaf-like bracts which are part of inflorescence). Tepals green becoming pale brown, never dark. |
