Rare, in shade on alkaline soils Stems to 40 cm high, spikelets 6-8 mm. Skye ID: Spikelets all on one side of a nodding axis, each with 2-3 fertile florets and a tight bundle of sterile bracts in the centre. Easy to recognise even when fruits have fallen (as in pic on left) Other features: A very graceful plant, hope to get a decent picture soon. Ligules very short. Spikelets solitary or two together, on curved stalks. |
