Rare, on sandy shores only Spikelets 15-28 mm long Skye ID: Spikelets alternating up the axis, broadside-on to it, and not overlapping the next one up on the same side. Upper surface of leaf prominently ribbed (ribs perhaps 6-12; much more in Common Couch) and densely hairy with very short hairs, not with scattered medium-length hairs. Leaf without small projections (auricles) where it joins the stem. Other features: Glaucous in colour, very smooth, almost waxy, looking. Spreads by creeping rhizomes. |
