Common on dryish parts of moors and hills, among grass, heather and rocks. Stems c 25-50 cm tall. Spikelets c 4-6 mm long Skye ID: 2 flowers per spikelet, each with a protruding awn (both awns visible, crossed, in top right spikelet of pic on left). Panicle branches wavy. Other features: A beautiful grass. The two flowers are together at the same level in the spikelet, whereas in any possible confusion species they are at different heights. Also other Deschampsia/Aira species do not have wavy panicle branches. Leaves are very narrow, about 0.5 mm wide. |
