Common on dryish parts of moors and hills, among grass, heather and rocks.

Stems c 25-50 cm tall.  Spikelets c 4-6 mm long

Skye ID: 2 flowers per spikelet, each with a protruding awn (both awns visible, crossed, in top right spikelet of pic on left).  Panicle branches wavy.

Other features: A beautiful grass.  The two flowers are together at the same level in the spikelet, whereas in any possible confusion species they are at different heights.  Also other Deschampsia/Aira species do not have wavy panicle branches.  Leaves are very narrow, about 0.5 mm wide.
