Occasional in bare shady ground or woodland edge. Stems to 150 cm tall. Spikelets 20-30 mm long. ID: As in picture. Panicle branches again branched, unlike those of Barren Brome. Other features: Tall spacious drooping plant. Panicle branches in pairs, the lower with a hairy scale at base. Spikelets often purplish, with up to 11 awned florets. Leaf-sheaths have long downward-pointing hairs. |
