Rare in alkaline grassland Shoots c 15-75 cm high. Spikelets c 4-7 mm long Skye ID: Spikelets hanging downwards with broad glumes and lemmas arranged as in picture on left - nothing else like it. Other features: 4-12 flowers per spikelet, usually purplish. Inflorescence branched, spreading, with spikelets solitary on the ends of branchlets mostly 1 cm or more long. Produces leafy shoots around the base from the ends of short rhizomes. |
