Common in woods and shady places, occasionally in the open among heather. Spikelets c 5 mm across. ID: Spikelets virtually unstalked, alternating regularly up two opposite sides of the stem (edgewise onto the stem, not face on), much narrower than true Bromes, 8-16 flowered, with long awns, stem nodding. Other features: Leaves hairy and flaccid, to 12 mm wide. |
