Occasional in grassland Plant c 5-25 cm high. Flower diameter c 13-20 cm Skye ID: Circle of hairs in centre of corolla. Calyx of 4 lobes, the two outer much wider than the two inner, overlapping and enclosing them. (Compare Autumn Gentian) Other features: Annual. Flowers always have 4 petals and sepals, reluctant to open except in bright sun. Normally bluish-purple, occasionally pale or white. Leaves opposite, unstalked, 3-veined. |
