Common on drier parts of moors

Flowers c 5-7 mm long

Skye ID: Leaves in whorls of three.

Other features: Leaves dark green, not grey above like Cross-leaved Heath, and much longer (to 7 mm) and less closely packed than Common Heather, but like those two has leaf margins strongly downturned.

Front flower on right c 6 mm long

Odd flowers occur very early (left) and late (above),
but main flowering is Jun-Sep.  Pic above also shows
brown withered flowers which persist all winter
