Found here and there in damp grassland and damp woods. Female spikes c 5-20 x 5-6 mm Skye ID: Fruit pale, uppermost female spikes crowded closely round male. Leaves hairy beneath. Sheaths hairy. Other features: Fruit elliptical in cross-section and also face-on, with very small, sometimes almost imperceptible, un-notched beak. Lowest bract crimped at base, often overtopping the male spike. |
