Rare or possibly extinct in Skye.  On sandy shores.

Flower diameter c 5-9 mm

Skye ID: Leaves and bracts tipped with sharp spines.  Flowers with 5 narrow whitish petals, solitary, unstalked, with sharp leaf-like bracts at base, becoming fruit like that shown on left.

Other features: Most of the spiny things in the picture are flower-bracts, the leaves are similar but long and narrow.
