Uncommon in damp bare or grassy places. Stems c 5-15 cm tall. Flower diameter c 6-12 mm Skye ID: Leaves linear like other Pearlworts but has "knotted" appearance owing to bunches of leaves (undeveloped shoots) in leaf-axils. Petals nearly twice as long as sepals, not notched. 10 stamens, 5 styles. Other features: Much taller and more showy than other Pearlworts, but like many of them it has a short non-flowering central stem. Similar at a quick glance to the much commoner Fairy Flax, but that has 5 stamens, and its leaves, though narrow, are not linear but have curved sides. Could also be compared to Lesser Stitchwort in appearance, but that has notched petals. |
