Common in lochs Flower c 15-20 mm long Skye ID: Unmistakable in flower or fruit. Upright stems emerging from water with nodding stalked flowers or fruit capsules along their length but no leaves (except a few small scales). Underwater basal leaf-rosettes id'd by leaves being flattened with blunt rounded tips. Other plants with underwater rosettes are Pipewort, Quillwort sp, Bulbous Rush and Awlwort, all of which have pointed tips, and Shoreweed which has (more or less) cylindrical leaves. Other features: Flowers pale mauve or white with 3 downward-pointing petal-lobes and 2 upward-pointing. |
