Occasional in rich disturbed soil near buildings. An escape from cultivation. Flower c 12-17 mm long. ID: Fully open flowers reddish-purple or mauvish, not bright blue. (note comfrey flowers can be different colours in bud). Upper stem leaf margins run down the stem for a short distance (can be up to half the distance to the next leaf-junction, but no more). Calyx divided more than 2/3 way to base. Other features: The hybrid of S officinale and S asperum, spread beyond its parents' range by cultivation. Intermediates, back-crosses and cultivars can also occur. |
