Occasional in rich disturbed soil near buildings. An escape from cultivation. Flower c 12-17 mm long. Skye ID: Flowers purple or blue; Tuberous Comfrey has yellow flowers. Other features: The hybrid of S officinale and S asperum, spread beyond their range by cultivation. The parents are absent from Skye, but it can be told from them by the leaf-blades being shortly decurrent onto the stem to form wings that only continue for about 1-2 cm below the leaves, not as far as next leaf-junction. Basically a hybrid swarm, with intermediates, back-crosses and cultivars occuring. |
