Very common on heathery and rocky ground, dry banks, woods. Outer (sterile) fronds 10-50 cm. Skye ID: Fronds tufted, outer ones (green in pic on left) sterile, with numerous shortish, untoothed and undivided pinnules, inner fronds (brown in pic on left, where seen from rear) fertile, with narrow pinnules almost completely covered with sori when ripe. Other features: Sterile fronds somewhat leathery and remain green over winter. |
